The houses on Prkos Street in the village of Golubinci are not aligned parallel to the road, as usual, but are instead positioned diagonally. The story says that, long ago, the closest neighbours had a falling out and decided that their houses should not face each other to avoid seeing each other through the windows. Thus, they began constructing their houses diagonally from the road, a practice that continues to this day with new houses being built the same way. Due to this defiance or stubbornness, this street was named Prkos (Defiance). Only when you find yourself there will you realize how unusual, different, and interesting it is, as you’ve probably never had the opportunity to walk down such a street before. There’s a brilliant sentence that succinctly explains the essence of defiance: “Now I won’t do it even the way I want to!!!”
