“Srbijanka” chocolate – the first edible souvenir of Serbia from Stara Pazova
Stara Pazova has a long tradition in craftsmanship dating back to the second half of the 19th century, and this story emerged from traditional family values. Today, the well-recognized brand “Srbijanka” originated in the magical workshop of the Čaušević family in Stara Pazova, which exists for three and a half decades, specializing in manufacturing machines and moulds for the confectionery industry. Our fellow citizen, Emin Čaušević, a young mechanical engineer, worked alongside his father in the workshop, contemplating how no one in Serbia had yet changed the shape of the standard chocolate cube. Knowing they had quality tools capable of producing various shapes, he aimed to prove that besides unusual, meandering shapes, they could also achieve the desired relief on chocolate. This led him to the idea of creating chocolate in the shape of the borders of our country, and the product’s name emerged from a unique twist of fate. For days, Emin worked in the workshop crafting moulds, when suddenly his father jokingly asked him as he passed by, “Have you finally made your ‘Srbijanka’?” He liked the idea, and later, it proved to be an excellent name for the chocolate. Being a family business, the design of the box was created by his sister in the shape of a book, featuring brief biographies of significant figures who marked Serbia’s history, along with text about Serbia’s first chocolate factory, “Šonda.” The chocolate is handmade from premium ingredients and stands up to the most famous global brands. The cocoa comes from Peru, and processed raw materials are imported from Switzerland and Sweden. This brand is officially protected and can be purchased at the “Srbijanka” chocolatery in Stara Pazova, Belgrade Airport, wine shops, and well-stocked stores.
